Cell Phone Armband Holders: Which Is The Best?

cell phone armband holders

If you are into running, like me, you may have looked into getting one. For the longest time, I saw others running around my town with these babies strapped to their upper arms. If I’m being honest, I held out for the longest time, opting to hold my phone in my hand while out for a jog. However, after I had to replace my smaller phone with a larger one (and a ton of research later) I finally purchased one of those cellphone armband holders!

I’m here now to report what I think is the absolute best one you can find on the market today: The TRIBE Water Resistant Cell Phone Armband Case. Versatile, easy to use, durable, and (for those who are looking to get fit on a budget) inexpensive, I believe this will be money well-spent!

Read on to find out exactly what I think of this awesome armband!

Behind The TRIBE – Who Are They?

Behind The Armband – How It’s Made And What Are My Options?

The band itself is made of durable Polyurethane and a mix of Lycra and Neoprene. This means that not only is the band comfortable to wear, but also has water-resistant (and therefore sweat-resistant) qualities.

The armband is adjustable and has two belt loops (one for smaller arms and one for larger arms). This also means that you can get the right fit that will prevent the band from slipping down your arm while you are working out.

Additionally, it provides a key holder and a place to loop your headphone cords through to keep them from getting all tangled. The front screen is protected by a plastic screen, while also allowing you to use the touchscreen capabilities of your phone.

This particular armband is able to hold a wide variety of cell phone sizes depending on the option you choose and has a wide reflector strip for when running in lower light.

The Small:

  • iPhone: X, Xs, 8, 7, 6, 6s
  • Any similarly sized phone

The Medium:

  • iPhone: X, Xs
  • Samsung Galaxy: S9, S8, S7, S6, A8
  • Any similarly sized phone

The Large:

  • iPhone: Xs MAX, XR, 8+, 7+ 6+, 6S+
  • Samsung Galaxy: S9+, S8+, A8+, NOTE
  • Any similarly sized large phone

The TRIBE Water Resistant Cell Phone Armband also comes in a variety of colors from which you can choose:

  • Dark Pink
  • Black with Grey Threading
  • Black
  • Dark Blue
  • Grey
  • Light Blue
  • Light Pink

A Review Of The Reviews

As previously stated, the TRIBE armbands have a very high rating of 4.3 out of 5 stars. Now let’s break them down to see how they got that average:

The Amazon Star Breakdown:

  • 12,579 5-star reviews (66%)
  • 3,205 4-star reviews (16%)
  • 1,096 3-star reviews (7%)
  • 765 2-star reviews (4%)
  • 1,294 1-star reviews (7%)

After reading through the reviews, it seemed there were those who spoke highly of its durability and quality and those who didn’t. As with any product, it seems everyone may have a different experience. While I can’t necessarily speak to those reviews, I can give you my list of pros and cons.

  • I have found the armband to be extremely comfortable. All the material is very soft and I have had no issues with rubbing or chafing when going to a run.
  • I have not experienced the band to have any slipping issues (except for when I didn’t have it tight enough) down my arm during a workout.
  • The pouch that holds the phone works extremely well, especially when combined with the phone case I am using. I was very concerned, maybe even neurotic (as I own an iPhone 8), about the phone falling and breaking so I decided to try to fit it in with my shockproof case. I was immensely pleased to find that the phone in the case fit snugly into the armband carrier. In fact, it fits so snugly, there seems to be no chance of it falling out! (Thumbs up for that!)
  • I love the key-holder. I used to take my house key and put it in my pocket. Thankfully, it never fell out, but I would have to periodically check to make sure it was still there. The armband’s key-holder is snug and easily fits a house key (though it won’t fit a car key) and keeps it in place.
  • I chose the black band with red threading, and I think it looks slick and stylish. The TRIBE logo is cool, as well.
  • One thing I like, but others may not, is it can be difficult to see your phone while you are running, as the plastic covering tends to make a glare. I get distracted easily and check my time frequently, so my inability to see the screen (and hence, my running app) helps me to stay focused on the run and putting forth my best effort. You opinion may be different.
  • Lastly, though I haven’t taken it out in a rainstorm (not sure I would want to run in one anyway), I have run in hot and humid weather several times. I have been very sweaty at the end of each run and though the backing of the phone pouch gets pretty wet, when I checked on the phone case, it was completely dry! Some negative reviews complained about the phone getting soaking wet during rainy runs. I don’t know. To me, if it is raining that hard, exercise inside.

  • As I stated before, it’s a positive for me, but for others, the inability to see your phone’s screen could be bothersome to others. The angle of the phone (and I’ve tried it right side up and upside down) when it’s on your arm makes it extremely difficult to read your stats while on the run.
  • Additionally, while inside the pouch, the plastic screen of the armband really lessens the sensitivity of my phone’s touchscreen. I’m not sure if this is because it already has a screen protector on it or what, but I usually have to be extra precise with my movements to get the phone to do what I want while in the band.
  • If you have Arnold size guns (or even those of a heavy weigh lifter) I’m not sure the stretchable band might fit you. I have medium arms and it’s great for me, but I can see where it would be trouble for those who’ve got the big bi’s and tri’s.

Things I Can’t Judge Yet:

  • While the durability has been great so far, I can’t say I have had it an extremely long time. Therefore, I can’t speak to its longevity. However, TRIBE offers a 100% Satisfaction Lifetime Guarantee. If you are not absolutely satisfied, they will either refund your money or replace your armband for FREE, no questions asked. That’s pretty awesome.
  • Lastly, I have had some concern with how to clean the armband. I couldn’t find any information on the TRIBE website and have read stories of how others’ armbands have become quite nasty smelling after a while. While mine does not smell yet, it’s only a matter of time. So far, I’ve done some research and found a site that deals with washing neoprene, so it’s principles would most likely work for the armband. Take a look at that by CLICKING HERE.

I couldn’t be happier so far with my purchase. When looking for cell phone armband holders, I was hoping for very specific features. So far, the TRIBE Water Resistant Cell Phone Armband has met and exceeded my expectations.

There are still a few unanswered questions about durability and cleaning, but with the 100% Satisfaction Lifetime Guarantee offered by the company and a little internet digging about cleaning, I think I have all my bases covered.
