Are you someone who enjoys purchasing organic, all-natural products for your family, but always balks at the price? Then “What’s Thrive Market?” is a question you should be asking yourself.
Now, don’t get me wrong by the title of this post. I do love walking through Whole Foods. The atmosphere is incredibly inviting. Everything is so clean and organized, the staff is always friendly, and the products are amazing. There’s really only one problem.
For some who is on a budget, like myself, it becomes a major issue. I want to provide my family with the healthiest foods and products available. It leads to fewer problems down the road (which come with their own high price tag), but I also know it’s not healthy going broke. That’s why I am so glad I stumbled upon Thrive Market!
If you can relate at all to my experience, you owe it to yourself to keep reading this post. You could be purchasing the same, high quality products you always have, but at a huge, money-saving discount!
What’s Thrive Market? The Background
Thrive Market was the idea of four individuals: Nick Green, Gunnar Lovelace, Kate Mulling, and Sasha Siddhartha. Though they came from unique upbringings, they all had a similar experience. Their parents worked incredibly hard to give them quality, nutritious food, but were always hampered by the hassle of the overly expensive method of conventional shopping.
They collectively decided they needed to do something about it, and in 2014, came up with the idea of Thrive Market, where they were able to cut out the middlemen and eliminate the markup of retail stores to bring their customers wholesale prices on high quality products!
The idea behind this is that no matter what your income, you should be able to access healthy food and products. So far, the model has worked as they now boast over 600,000 members to their community!
This philosophy also gave birth to their Thrive Gives program. You see, for everyone that signs up for a membership (more on that later), Thrive offers a free membership to either a low-income family, teacher, veteran, student, or first-responder!
Additionally, you can choose to donate at checkout and those funds will go do certain programs including Thrive Gives members, disaster relief, veteran aid, food access, and a host of others! For example, in 2018, 89,000 pounds of food and supplies was donated to various causes along with 75,000 meals!
Not only is Thrive helping you save money on high-quality products, but they are also committed to helping our your community, making your membership a win-win!

What’s Thrive Market? The Products
According to Thrive’s own website, they admittedly do not carry every single product you can imagine. However, that is also not their goal. When you shop, you find 40 different brands of soap or 10 different brands of chicken.
As Thrive says, they don’t carry everything, but they do carry “the best of everything”.
I still wanted to know what that meant, so I browsed their selection. It’s true! Any type of product you could find in a Whole Foods, you can find at Thrive. Here is a breakdown of what they have:

What’s Thrive Market – The Cost
OK, so all of this sounds pretty great. You can get amazing products that are all-natural, organic, sustainable, etc. However, does it all fall apart when it comes to the cost? Again, healthy living isn’t going to remain healthy if you go broke!
Here is what you need to know about the price. When you sign up, you get 30 days to try out Thrive Market for free. No membership fee, just pay the cost of your groceries. After the 30-day trial is up, you have two options.
- Monthly: If you want to go month-to-month with your subscription, you are looking at paying $9.95 per month, which would end up costing you $109.45 for the first year.
- Yearly: If you sign up for a yearly membership, the price gets cut by almost 50% to $5 a month! That adds up to $55 over the first year (because of the free trial month).
After that, your cost is really up to you and what you purchase. Just remember that because Thrive cuts out the middleman, you are looking at anywhere from 25-50% savings over actually going to your local organic market.
The good thing about this is that you are able to cancel your membership at any time. Additionally, if you don’t make back the price of your membership in savings, Thrive will automatically credit you the difference for your next year’s subscription.
The example they give is that if you only have a savings difference of $40 during a year (yearly membership is $60), they will automatically credit your account with the remaining $20 to start the next year.
There are also opportunities for savings because Thrive works with the Honey Browser Extension! Read my full review of that by clicking the link and signing up to increase your savings!
If you are a one of the select group that qualifies for Thrive Gives, then it is possible to receive a free membership, but only if you apply!
Are There Any Cons To Joining?
There are a lot of things I like about Thrive Market. I think there are only a couple of cons that I see about using it. The first is that even with cutting out the middleman, you are still getting high-end products. That means that though their prices are incredibly competitive, it might still be out of the budget for those who are used to regular supermarkets.
Secondly, it’s going to take a bit more planning on your part if you want to do all of your shopping with Thrive, which can be a pro or a con, I suppose. You can’t just pop out to a store to pick up an ingredient you forgot. If you run out of milk, you have to wait for it to ship.
Therefore, if you are a planner and are well-organized, it could work extremely well for you. If you aren’t, it could either force you to become one or just make you frustrated that you have to go to the grocery store and spend more money anyway because you forgot something.
What’s Thrive Market? The Verdict
If I were to answer the question, “What’s Thrive Market?” I’d have to say it’s a great place to shop for food and products of the highest quality, from the comfort of your own home, at prices that are much lower than other organic markets or Whole Foods.
I really like what they are all about. Trying to make the “Whole Foods experience” available to everyone, no matter what their income is an incredibly admirable mission and one that I think is worthy of support. In addition, if you are a teacher, student, first responder, veteran, or low-income family, you might even qualify to get a free membership!
However, now, it’s your turn! What do you think of Thrive Market? Is it a service that you have used before? If so, what has been your experience with them? Positive or negative, I want to hear your honest opinion!
What do you think of the Thrive brand products that they offer? Are they on par with the nationally recognized brands?
